German Made Gallipoli Star

The original Gallipoli Stars were awarded by the Turks during WW I.   Both to their troops and the Germans as well.  If you have seen one of the issue Turkish Stars they are made from stamped metal and the red is painted, over time they turned almost orange in color.  Well the German troops who could afford to would either purchase a more impressive award have one made in Germany by one of the Court Jewelers.  These were made in a few levels of quality and price, and the red was enameled, some had the "Sultans Signature" as a solid piece with the base metal and then they were enameled.  Part of the enameling process is to pebble, scribe or Hand Engrave the metal areas to be enameled this makes a better surface for the enamel to adhere.  The design of the engraving makes the Star reflect light better and is often very elaborate.  All of this plus the maker translate into a more desirable Gallipoli Star.  A couple of the makers that are very desirable are Godet, Wagner and Meybauer.  The example is a Meybauer and the overall condition is excellent.  There are a few hair line cracks which are visible when the thumbnail is expanded which do not detract from the beauty of this Star.  The hinge, pin and clasp are solid and functional, the Meybauer Logo is on the reverse and I have circled it in red.     Excellent -

Patriotic Iron Cross Pin

Excellent detail 1914 Iron Cross Pin with a wreath intertwined in a circle around the Iron Cross.  As you can see this one does need a bit of cleaning should the new owner choose to do so.  The hinge, pin and clasp are solid and functional, the clasp has been professionally re-soldered at one time.  The Iron Cross is ≈ 1" square and would make a fine accent piece in your collection.    Very Good +
